Read this one carefully. It counts listings first posted in each month that are still listed today. A shortage that started in one of those months and has since ended is not in the feed at all, so it cannot be counted — the older months are undercounted by exactly the ones that got better. It is a picture of what is still open, not of everything that ever happened.

Four kinds of entry. A manufacturer moving between available, limited and unavailable for a strength. A listing appearing in the feed for the first time. A listing disappearing, which we report as no longer listed by FDA and never as resolved. And a product being marked to be discontinued, which is the manufacturer signalling it intends to stop making it.

Reverifications do not appear. When a manufacturer confirms an unchanged status the FDA updates the record’s date without changing what it says; treating that as news would fill this log with noise and fill inboxes with pointless email.

How to read an entry

Each line names the product and strength, the manufacturer, and what its status became. Following the link opens that strength’s page, where the full list of manufacturers and their package codes lives. A single strength can appear several times on one day if more than one manufacturer moved.

Why the dates are ours, not the FDA’s

Each entry is dated by the day we observed it in the feed. A manufacturer might have reported a change days earlier, and the record’s own update date sometimes does not move when the availability text does. Dating by observation is the only claim we can actually stand behind, so it is the one we make.
